Serums, creams and cleansers: does your policy cover your full range?

Understand what to ask about skincare before relying on a product liability policy. Start with your actual range and the proposed terms.

Smaller sellers can apply. Coverage subject to underwriting.

A product description comes before a policy comparison

Selling a few skincare products each month does not answer the insurance question. Your actual formulas, their intended use and Amazon's category definitions matter alongside your sales figure.

Use the questions below to discuss proposed policy wording with an insurer. They identify points to clarify; they do not describe guaranteed Assureful coverage or imply that every product in this guide can be insured.

Three questions for your insurer

  • Does the review include the whole routine?

Explain each cleanser, cream, serum and mask in the range, including how it is intended to be used. Ask whether the proposed coverage applies across these formats and whether any products require separate review.

  • What do exclusions mean for active ingredients?

Provide ingredient information and ask how any relevant exclusions or conditions apply. Avoid treating an accepted basic moisturiser as evidence that a newly introduced active formula is also accepted.

  • Are your product claims accurately disclosed?

Share the claims on labels, advertising and listings. Ask about the effect of treatment, sun-protection or other specialist claims on the proposed coverage and whether further information is needed.

When the product range changes

A skincare seller with $3,000 in monthly revenue offers a cleanser and plans to add a treatment serum. The lower revenue is not a blanket exemption if a listing falls within an affected category, and the existing product description may need updating for the new formula.

This is an illustrative situation, not a claim example or an eligibility decision. Keep a written record of what you disclosed and the insurer's response, especially where a new product or activity needs further review.

Read beyond the headline limit

For affected categories, Amazon's November update specifies at least $1 million per occurrence and in the aggregate. The occurrence limit applies to a covered occurrence; the aggregate limits covered claims over the applicable period, subject to the policy wording. A certificate showing those figures does not explain all exclusions, deductibles or conditions.

Ask about the insured business name, products, activities, policy period and applicable territory. Review the full terms and Amazon's current proof requirements before relying on a quote or certificate.

Common questions

Does a $1 million certificate prove every product is covered?

No. The policy's product scope, exclusions, conditions and other terms matter. Ask the insurer to review the actual range; a certificate summarises certain policy information and does not replace the full wording.

Can I apply with less than $10,000 in monthly sales?

Yes. Assureful's application accepts sales figures below $10,000 a month. Use your actual sales or a reasonable projection. An estimate does not guarantee product eligibility, an issued policy or Amazon's acceptance of your documents.

For Mainland China sellers, Amazon’s separate AIA requirement also applies from November 2: new policies submitted must be obtained through AIA; compliant third-party policies submitted beforehand can continue until expiry. Assureful’s current application supports businesses based in the United States and Hong Kong.
