Portable power sellers: checking your Amazon insurance requirements

Portable power is a marketing term that can cover very different products. Start with whether the unit stores energy in a battery, converts power or is part of a larger system, then describe the actual specifications.

Smaller sellers can apply. Coverage subject to underwriting.

Start with the exact listing

Check Amazon's exact definitions for portable power products and any lithium battery requirements. Power banks, battery power stations and other power supplies are not interchangeable descriptions, and this guide does not assume identical category treatment.

Separate power banks, battery power stations, adapters and fuel-powered generators. Confirm the power source and battery chemistry where present before matching the listing to a category definition.

What changes on November 2?

From November 2, 2026, Amazon.com sellers with products in categories with enhanced safety listing requirements must maintain commercial liability insurance covering those products, with at least USD $1 million per occurrence and in aggregate, regardless of sales. The existing requirement within 30 days of exceeding USD $10,000 in gross proceeds in any month also remains.

For an affected listing, being below the sales threshold will not remove the category requirement. If your product is outside those definitions, check the existing sales rule and any direct request in Seller Central. Apply the rules to Amazon.com rather than assuming the same position in every marketplace.

Review what is already on sale

Higher-capacity models, new output arrangements and additional charging accessories should be reflected in your product inventory. Do not rely on an old generic power-supply description as the range expands.

  • Match products to definitions

Keep a record of the relevant Seller Central category guidance and your listing identifiers. If the wording is unclear, ask Amazon about the precise product rather than guessing from a broad category name.

  • Check issued cover

If you already have insurance, ask whether it covers the relevant products and meets Amazon's current terms. An existing certificate is a starting point for review, not a substitute for checking the policy.

  • Allow time for document corrections

Follow the proof-of-insurance instructions in your seller account and check the submission status. Starting an application is different from having coverage in force and accepted documentation.

Common questions

Does this mean every portable power supplies listing is affected?

Check Amazon's exact definitions for portable power products and any lithium battery requirements. Power banks, battery power stations and other power supplies are not interchangeable descriptions, and this guide does not assume identical category treatment.

Can I apply with less than $10,000 in monthly sales?

Yes. Assureful's application accepts sales figures below $10,000 a month. Use your actual sales or a reasonable projection. An estimate does not guarantee product eligibility, an issued policy or Amazon's acceptance of your documents.

Amazon policy source: Commercial liability insurance announcement, checked September 8, 2026. Check the current enhanced-safety category definitions in Seller Central (sign-in may be required). Product checklists and examples are Assureful editorial guidance, not Amazon’s complete category list.

For Mainland China sellers, Amazon’s separate AIA requirement also applies from November 2: new policies submitted must be obtained through AIA; compliant third-party policies submitted beforehand can continue until expiry. Assureful’s current application supports businesses based in the United States and Hong Kong.
